Richard Norris

Richard Norris has had a long and rich career in music. After putting out post punk singles aged 13, he co-produced the seminal Jack The Tab album with Genesis P. Orridge in 1987, the first UK album to be influenced by acid house. This led to a solo record deal with Warner Bros, where he was soon joined by Soft Cell’s Dave Ball, initially as a producer, then a full-time member of the electronic duo The Grid. Their debut single, ‘Floatation’, is a Balearic classic, and featured an early Andrew Weatherall mix.

The Grid released three albums, toured extensively (including dates in Australia and new Zealand) and produced 10 UK hit singles, including Crystal Clear, Rollercoaster, Texas Cowboys and the million selling Swamp Thing.

Richard then collaborated with Joe Strummer, co-writing half of Joe’s solo album, before forming Beyond The Wizards Sleeve with DJ Erol Alkan. He also released solo albums as the Time and Space Machine, Oracle Sound, and under his own name, including the ongoing ambient/deep listening project Music For Healing and other releases on his Group Mind label. He has DJ ’ed worldwide for many years.

Richard has remixed hundreds of artists, including Brian Eno, Yello, Erasure, Tame Impala, Bryan Ferry, Hannah Peel, the Chemical Brothers, Midlake, Warpaint, Noel Gallagher, Tracey Thorn, Placebo and more. He has collaborated with Billie Ray Martin (co-producing her Billboard No 1 club hit Your Loving Arms), Robert Fripp (on the album Leviathan), Sun Ra, Marc Almond and many others.

He is currently putting the finishing touches to a new Grid album and ‘Best Of’ collection for BMG. His music memoir, Strange Things Are Happening, was published by White Rabbit in 2024.

His new solo album ‘8mm’ is released on State of Mind in May 2026.
